Many people are familiar with H&R Block as a tax preparation firm. There are H&R Block offices in most cities and towns around the U.S. They provide inexpensive accountants for people to have their tax returns prepared and files.
But a lot of people don't know that H&R Block produces a tax preparation software program for people to do their own taxes. Instead of taking your records into an accountant, you can prepare your own tax return right at home. H&R Block's tax software is similar to TurboTax. It will ask the user questions in a step-by-step guide, then prepare the relevant tax forms for the IRS. The forms can then be printed out and mailed in, or for a faster refund, you can e-file the return electronically straight to the IRS.
H&R Block tax software will also prepare and file the proper forms for state income tax returns. Each of the several versions of H&R Block will do the major forms, but for more complicated circumstances, a higher version of the H&R Block software might be needed. There are four major versions: Basic, Deluxe, Premium, and Premium Business. To help you decide which version you need, we have prepared a comparison chart of the different versions. This chart also includes prices for all the major retailers so you know where to get the best deal.
