Which Microsoft Office for Mac product is right for you?

(If you need Microsoft Office for Windows, look here for more information.)

Microsoft Office comes in two major product lines: Office 2016 and Office 365. So what’s the difference and which one should you get?

In a nutshell, the Office 2016 product line is a stand-alone version of Office that you purchase one time and you have the right to use it for life. This is what most people are used to doing.

Office 365 is the new way to purchase Office. It is an annual subscription that you renew each year. If you don’t renew, you don’t get to keep using Office. However, the upside to this model is you always get the latest version of Microsoft Office with all the latest features.

So, if you are the type of person who is fine with using the same version of Office for several years, Microsoft Office 2016 is probably the best product line for you. On the other hand, if you like to stay updated with the latest and greatest feature in Office and you upgrade every time a new version of Office is released, you would be best off going with Office 365.

Check out the chart below for a side-by-side comparison of all the features in both product lines.
